Inverness Club Selected to Host the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur

In December of 2014, the USGA announced that Inverness Club was selected to host the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®, to be held July 15-20, 2019. The USGA is the governing body of golf in the United States, and conducts 13 national championships annually.

For Inverness Club, this will be our second USGA championship this decade, and eighth in our history, including:

U.S. Open: 1920, 1931, 1957, 1979
U.S. Amateur: 1973
U.S. Senior Open: 2003, 2011
U.S. Junior Amateur: 2019

With another first in the sport of golf, Inverness Club will be the only site to have hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, U.S. Amateur, and the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®. Five other clubs have hosted three of these championships (all hosted a U.S. Open and U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®): Congressional Country Club, Atlanta Athletic Club, The Olympic Club, Southern Hills Country Club and The Country Club.

The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship® is open to male amateurs under the age of 19. It typically receives entries from nearly 3,000 players from around the world who compete in regional qualifiers for entry into the final field of 156. Past champions include Johnny Miller, Gary Koch, Charlie Rymer, David Duval and Hunter Mahan. There have been two multiple winners in the history of the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®, Tiger Woods (1991, 1992, 1993) and Jordan Spieth (2009, 2011).

“We are honored to have been selected as the host site for the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®. Inverness Club is proud to have had such a long-standing relationship with the USGA and championship golf. We are thankful and excited for another opportunity to showcase our city and club,” said Greg Kopan, President of the Inverness Club Board of Governors.

Other future sites include:

2015 Colleton River Plantation Club – Bluffton, South Carolina
2016 The Honors Course – Ooltewah, Tennessee
2017 Flint Hills National Golf Club – Andover, Kansas
2018 Baltusrol Golf Club – Springfield, New Jersey

With the 72nd U.S. Junior Amateur Championship®, Inverness Club will have hosted twelve major professional and amateur championships since 1920. As always, we remain thoughtful stewards of a historic, world-class golf course.
